WoodWorks provides 12 weeks of paid woodworking training to 'at-risk' and homeless Calgarians aged 16-30 who are interested in the craft of woodworking. Participants work in the DI WoodWork Shop located in the Manchester Industrial area with an instructor to student ratio of 3:1. This opportunity provides participants with hands-on work experience to confidently enter the workforce, and develop the life skills necessary for self-sufficiency. Participants must complete the DI's free 3-Week Employment Training program as a prerequisite.

How many employees does your organization employ?
We hire a maximum of 6 students per 12-week cycle, resulting in approximately 24 students a year.
What type of positions do you offer?
12 weeks of full-time paid woodworking training.
What are some entry level career opportunities that your organization offers?
We offer 12 weeks of paid woodworking training, but students will graduate equipped with the skills to pursue apprenticeships in the Cabinet Making trade or other relevant industries.
What is your hiring process?
To enter the prerequisite 3-Week Employment Training program, participants must first go through a recruitment interview and pass a basic literacy test. Participants who then graduate from the 3-Week program and express interest in the WoodWorks program will meet with Human Resources for an entrance interview.

What do you look for in employees?
Participants must be physically fit and between the ages of 16-30. Priority is given to low income individuals.
