1-800-GOT-JUNK? started in Vancouver in 1989. 


How many locations do you have in Calgary and nationally or internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area?


We have one location in Calgary, and approximately 160 franchise locations throughout Canada, the US, and Australia. Our Calgary franchise is currently hiring. 

How many people does your organization employ? How many locally?

We have thousands of employees worldwide. Locally, depending on the season, we have a team of 20 - 40.

COVID prevention measures:

• A team member pairing system to reduce contact with other teammates
• Staggered start times to avoid contact with the rest of the team

• Call ahead pre-screens to all customers, if they or anyone in their household have any symptoms we are rescheduling their appointment
• Clear explanation to our customers during booking of the importance of maintaining 2m distancing at all times, and adhering to 100% no contact.
• When possible, customers are leaving items to be picked up on front lawns/driveways etc.
• 100% No contact junk removal - including taking payment.
• Our employees are also empowered to reschedule any appointment if a customer is showing any kind of symptoms or if they feel the appointment puts them at risk

1-800-GOT-JUNK? Is extremely proud of its recycling and diversion program. We recycle on average 60% of what we pick up, and will also donate gently used items. This has resulted in billions of tonnes of waste being disposed of responsibly.

Describe your hiring and interview process? 

We will connect on the phone for 10 - 15 minutes to cover the basics, successful candidates will move to a 30 minute videoconferencing interview to further discuss the role. Positions are offered after the second interview. 



What do you look for in an employee?

Customer Service Rockstars/General Labourers who are looking for growth opportunities. We loves team players with a can-do attitude!

For the Summer Student Roles, 1-800-GOT-JUNK? is looking for any student with customer service skills, able to handle heavy lifting, and has a great attitude. Preferably have full-time availability and no driver's license is required for these 4 positions. 

What type of education/training/equipment do you require? 

No education or training required. You will need to provide your own steel toed boots and a pair of dark blue Dickie’s style work pants.

Employees need to have held a Class 5 (or equivalent) Driver’s License for at least 4 years and have a clean driver’s abstract.

For the Student Summer roles the position does not require a Driver's License. 

What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions?

For insurance purposes, our employees must be at least 20 years of age. 

Provide a wage range for entry level positions.

$17 - $20/hr base + tips and bonuses (usually an extra $1-3/hr)



What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules?

We operate 7 days a week, generally from 7am - 7pm. Shifts start in the morning and last 8-10 hrs/day. 

P/T is available, we prefer that you work a minimum of 2 shifts a week. We can be accommodating to school schedules.

For the Summer Student roles the preference is full-time availability. 

Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it?

Uniform costs are accounted for in employees bonus structure. No money is required up front by the employee.
