Summer
Student positions: We offer
a broad range/variety of summer student
positions across 30 business units within The City of Calgary. These are intended
for post-secondary students who are in the
midst of their studies and will be returning to
full-time studies after the summer period. Whether you’re studying
engineering, planning, business, IT, environmental science, communications, or
public policy, there’s a place for you to grow, learn, and contribute. A small example of summer positions we will have available include:

Seasonal positions: Every year, The City bolsters it’s workforce with temporary seasonal staff to help support summer season operations. This work is necessary to help us deliver quality programs and services to Calgary residents. Seasonal jobs are positions that have set start and end dates but may give you the opportunity to be recalled. development. We balance environmental and safety responsibilities while
delivering essential services to Calgarians. Our initiatives include
repurposing land for green spaces, installing solar energy systems, operating
Canada’s largest composting facility, and implementing natural solutions like
goat grazing for weed control. We also invest in urban forestry and
environmentally friendly transit options.
Social responsibility remains a cornerstone of our
work. Through a 46-year partnership with United Way, City employees raised over
$310,000 in 2024 to support community programs. We continue to advance Truth
and Reconciliation, strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities, and

Education and experience requirements vary by position. All minimum qualifications will be clearly listed in each job posting. What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions?
The minimum age to be considered for employment with The City is 15 years. There are some restrictions for individuals under 18, and all employment must comply with the Employment Standards Code of the Province of Alberta. While some positions are available to those 15 and older (such as certain Code 86 roles), others require applicants to be at least 18 years of age.

Wages vary by position and are listed in each job posting. All students are paid $29.82 per hour as per the CUPE Local 38 collective agreement.
