What year did your business open?

Calaway Park opened in 1982.

How many locations do you have in Calgary and across Canada/internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area?

We have one location located just west of Calgary. 

How many people work for your company/organization? How many locally?

We hire more than 700 seasonal Team Members each year to work from May through October. We also have 42 year-round permanent Team Members.

What types of positions do you offer? (Ie. Full time, part time, seasonal, contract etc.)

We offer seasonal positions that extend from May through October, with 30-40 hours a week during July and August, and weekends only in the Spring and Fall.

We have opportunities to move into Senior Teams for our main departments. We also have Key Positions, such as Security, Guest Services, Finance, Campground, Warehouse, Landscape, and Leadership positions.

We provide academic awards for high school students and post-secondary scholarships, support for school events for the schools in our community, host an annual "Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs" in partnership with the National Service Dog Organization, provide food donations for Calgary Community Kitchen, host the Alberta Children's Hospital's "Kids Helping Kids" event, choose a charity to support each Christmas, support individual causes as they arise,  partner with school boards to provide a Work Experience program, and more.

Our seasonal positions can be found on our company website. To apply, candidates must fill out an application on the "Applications" page of our website. No resume is required. 



Describe your hiring and interview process?

Every application is screened to ensure the applicant meets our requirements (e.g. no summer school, less than 2 weeks vacation). Successful applicants continue to a phone screening, where our screener asks a few questions to determine if they are a strong candidate. If successful in the phone screening, they will be booked for an interview. Interviews take place in-person at Calaway Park.

What do you look for in an employee?

We look for candidates who are: positive, especially in the face of challenges; enthusiastic;  courteous and friendly; strong in communication skills and proficient in English; willing to work hard, comfortable in a fast-paced environment; able to adapt quickly to changing situations and multi-task; are confident working alone and as part of a team; honest and reliable; comfortable working in varying weather conditions; and exhibit Calaway Park's Corporate Culture.


What type of education/training/equipment do you require?

There are 4 steps in the formal training process. First is an in-person Guest Service Training. Next is an online General Department Training, followed by in-person Technical Training. Finally, there is a Dress Rehearsal for Team Members to practice their skills before being open to the general public. 

What is the What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions?

Calaway Park hires applicants that are at least 16 years of age. Some of our Key Positions require applicants to be 18 years of age. 

Provide a wage range for entry level positions.

The starting wage for positions in our Food Service, Grounds Maintenance, Games, and Retail & Admissions departments is $15.25. The starting wage for positions in our Rides department is $15.65. 



What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules?

Calaway Park's operating season runs from May long weekend to Thanksgiving. Calaway Park is open weekends only in the Spring and Fall, and everyday in July and August. The park is open from 10:00 am – 7:00 pm in the spring and summer. Shifts can start as early as 9:00 am or end as late as 8:00 pm. We look for Team Members who are available to work at least 4 to 5 days a week in the summer, and are available to work weekends, including weekends in the Spring and Fall. 


Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it?

Team Members hired into any of our entry-level positions will receive a free uniform which they are required to wear. The uniform consists of a pair of pants, a T-shirt, a hoodie, a hat, and a name tag.
