 On May 23, 2023 the RCMP turned 150 years old.

 The RCMP operates in 15 Divisions and over 750 Detachments across Canada.  Be prepared to serve anywhere in Canada. Consideration will be given to posting preferences; however, postings depend on the Force's needs. With hundreds of detachments across the country, police officers have the chance to experience life in many parts of Canada and work at different levels of policing - Municipal, Provincial and Federal. The usual duration of a posting is from three to five years.

Thereafter, have a Canadian optometrist/ophthalmologist assess your vision and complete the Vision Examination of Applicant (RCMP 2180) form, which outlines the minimum requirements that must be met; and

Have a Canadian audiologist assess your hearing and complete the Screening Audiogram History (RCMP 3184) form, which outlines the minimum requirements that must be met.

Once you have obtained your vision and hearing standards, all applicants must apply online. RCMP police officer job openings are posted at

 Qualifications and Requirements:

Be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status in Canada. Individuals with permanent resident status must have resided (been physically present) in Canada for 3 (1,095 days) out of the last 5 years as a permanent resident.

Be at least 18 years of age to apply

Be proficient in English and/or French

Possess a valid, unrestricted driver's licence

Possess a Canadian secondary school (high school) diploma or equivalent

Be prepared and able to carry a firearm and to use it or any other necessary physical force

Be willing to spend 26 weeks at the RCMP training academy (Depot) in Regina, Saskatchewan while receiving a $525 allowance per week.

Be willing to relocate anywhere within Canada

Be willing to work shift work including weekends and holidays

Be aware of requirements for tattoos, jewelry and other personal effects

What do you look for in an employee? 

The RCMP is seeking motivated team players who are strong communicators, enjoy working with diverse communities, are physically fit and possess strong leadership abilities. The RCMP has deemed it a priority to recruit quality applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, to better reflect our Canadian population. As such we've implemented a number of initiatives to reach our goal of increasing the ratio of women, Indigenous people and visible minority groups within the organization. 

What type of education/training/equipment do you require? 

Applicants must possess a Canadian secondary school (high school) diploma or equivalent. 

What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions? 

A person can apply at the age of 18 but must have turned 19 by the time they graduate from the Cadet Training Program. 

Provide a wage range for entry level positions. 

When you successfully complete the Cadet Training Program and have been offered employment, you will be hired as a Constable at an annual salary of $85,461. Usually, within 36 months of service, your annual base salary will have increased incrementally to $106,576. 

What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules?

Policing is a 24-hour-per-day, 365 days a year necessity and you should expect to work shifts, including nights, evenings, weekends and holidays. 

Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it? 

Yes a uniform and kit is provided to you at no charge at the Depot Training Academy in Regina, Saskatchewan and throughout your career.
