Our head office is located in Rocky View County, Alberta, approx. 20 min from downtown Calgary. Our second office is located in Mississauga, Ontario.

How many people does your organization employ? How many locally? 

We have 450+ Canadian employees. Approx 120+ in Calgary region.

Describe opportunities for advancement.

Advancement opportunities exist in all departments. Many of our drivers transfer over to work in the office. As examples, one of our Safety Analysts was previously a driver and our current Payroll Manager was also previously a driver. On the office side, examples include our current HR Manager who started as a Safety Analyst, and our current Safety Manager who started as a Dispatcher.

Describe your hiring and interview process? 

Office opportunities:

Interview process: Light Speed usually conducts 1-2 interviews, led by both HR and the manager of the hiring department. 

Hiring process: Light Speed conducts criminal/background checks, requires references and a resume. 

Onboarding includes mandatory online training and review of company-specific policies. 

What do you look for in an employee?

Light Speeds looks for relevant experience and proven competencies. The company also values employees who are driven, proactive, tech orientated and team players.

What type of education/training/equipment do you require? 

Depends on the role. Professional drivers require a Class 1 MELT license. Dispatchers require relevant experience and/or education. 

What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions?

Minimum age for drivers is 21. Minimum age for office employees is 18.

What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules?

As a transportation and logistics company, Light Speed operates 365 days/year, and 24/7 daily. Business departments such as HR, Recruiting, Payroll, Accounting, etc. operate 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Dispatch department operates 24/7. All full-time roles are 40 hours per week. Employees have flexibility with start and end times, again depending on department type. The company has a positive culture centered around breaks and mental health. 

Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it?

Uniforms are not required. Office culture is casual dress mixed with business professional.
