Two Wheel View

How long have you been in business?

Two Wheel View as an organization has been in operation for over twenty years, the Gap Employability Program has been running since 2019.

How many locations do you have in Calgary and nationally/internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area?

We operate locally in Calgary, Alberta. We have 3 hiring sessions: October, January and March.

How many people does your organization employ? How many locally?

We have 8 spots total in each hiring session for an 8-week contract. Sometimes we have additional positions open within the Two Wheel View Social Enterprise and workshop and we will look to hire employees from the Gap Employability Program.

What type of positions do you offer? (ex. Full time, part time, seasonal, contract etc.)

Our entry level positions are through our Gap Employability Program, which are part time, contract positions. We have a variety of positions we hire for that are exclusive to those who have gone through the Gap Program.

What are the benefits of working for your company? Staff discounts, incentive programs, scholarships etc.

The benefits of working with the Gap Employability Program are staff discounts at our social enterprise bike shop, competitive pay and a very casual work environment. We will also connect Gap employees to scholarships and potentially other employment opportunities when their contract is complete

Describe opportunities for advancement.

Once the 8-week Gap contract is complete, employees may have the option to apply for the Gap 2 positions which will allow them to increase their skills in bike mechanics, customer service and retail sales. Depending on the time of year, Gap employees can also apply for facilitator, retail, and workshop positions after their 8-week contract is up.

List any corporate responsibility initiatives that your organization is currently involved in.

Gap is an employment program that operates under the larger umbrella of Two Wheel View. Two Wheel View is a non-profit that diverts bicycles from the landfill by providing refurbished bicycles and teaching bike mechanics to youth. We have multiple programs that support youth in Calgary.

How would someone find out about opportunities at your company? How can a candidate apply?

If you are interested in the Gap Program, talk to a YEC staff, your teacher, or community worker. If you want to learn more about the program or to apply you can email gap@twowheelview.org.

Follow us on Instagram or Facebook to check out other opportunities as they come up.

Describe your hiring and interview process?

Interested individuals can send in their resume and cover letter and will be asked to fill out a short online survey. Successful applicants will have an opportunity to interview for the program, where they get a chance to practice their interview skills and learn more about the program.

What do you look for in an employee?

Someone who is interested in working with their hands, open to learning new things, and wants to develop their personal and professional skills.

What type of education/training/equipment do you require?

We don’t require any specific education or training to be employed in Gap. In fact, we offer work experience credits toward high school graduation throughout the 8-week contract!

What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions?

The Gap program employs 18-24-year-olds.

Provide a wage range for entry level positions.

The Gap Employability Program pays $15/hr.

What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules?

Gap employees are required to work Monday – Wednesday, 1 – 4:30pm for their 8-week contract. No evenings or weekends are required. For our other positions, shifts could be Wednesday – Saturday between 10am and 4pm.

Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it?

No uniform necessary! We encourage our staff to wear what they are comfortable in. Since it is an active workshop and staff will be using tools, employees must wear closed toe shoes for safety.
