MRU Camps has been inspiring Calgary’s youth since 1990. For over three decades, we’ve been proud to offer fun, inclusive, and educational camp experiences that help children and youth learn, grow, and build confidence in a safe and supportive environment.
How many locations do you have in Calgary and across Canada/internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area?
MRU Camps operates out of Mount Royal University’s main campus in southwest Calgary. Our programs take place both on campus and off campus through a variety of enriching field trip experiences at locations such as Kananaskis Country, the MRU Springbank Campus and Hangar, North Glenmore Park and other community and recreation sites across the city. All of our hiring is done locally in Calgary, providing students and emerging professionals with meaningful opportunities to gain hands-on experience right here in their community.
How many people work for your company/organization? How many locally?
Each summer, MRU Camps employs approximately 100-120 seasonal staff in addition to our full-time team that operates year-round. All of our staff work locally in Calgary, contributing to the growth and success of our community’s youth programs.

MRU Camps offers a range of seasonal, casual and contract positions that provide valuable hands-on experience for students and emerging professionals interested in education, leadership, recreation and youth development.
We hire for a variety of program areas, including Creative Education, Early Learning, STEM and Sports & Outdoor Education. Within these areas, opportunities include: Camp Instructors in Creative Education, Early Learning, STEM, Sports & Outdoor Education, Robotics, Design, and Aviation Program Supervisors who oversee teams and program delivery Camp Leaders, Float Leaders, and Substitute Leaders who support daily operations and camper experience Year-Round Programming Leaders and Instructors for PD Day and school-year camps Adapted Program Instructors who provide inclusive programming for children and youth with disabilities Supply & Inventory Supervisor & Assistants who manage logistics and materials.
We are also recruiting for a new Behaviour and Inclusion Supervisor role focused on supporting staff and campers through proactive strategies, inclusion initiatives and individualized support. These positions give young professionals an opportunity to share their passion and knowledge with youth. Describe your hiring and interview process?
OncOur hiring process is friendly, inclusive and designed to help candidates show their strengths. It typically begins with an online application, where applicants submit a resume and cover letter through the Mount Royal University careers portal. Depending on the position, candidates may be invited to participate in either an individual or a group interview, with the length and format varying based on the role. These interviews provide an opportunity for applicants to demonstrate their leadership, creativity and communication skills in a supportive setting. Successful candidates are then invited to attend paid training sessions before the start of camp to prepare for their role and connect with their team.

What type of education/training/equipment do you require?
Most of our entry level positions do not require formal education beyond high school completion or current enrollment. We provide comprehensive, paid training that covers: Leadership and group management Child safety, inclusion and behavior guidance Risk management and emergency response Program specific activities such as arts, STEM, sports and outdoor skills All MRU Camps staff are required to provide the following at their own cost prior to starting work: Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search (valid within one year) Standard First Aid (valid within two years) CPR Level C (valid within one year) These requirements help ensure a safe, professional and well prepared team environment for both staff and campers.
What is the What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions?
The minimum age to work with MRU Camps is 16 years old. There are no additional age requirements for other positions. Applicants must simply meet the minimum age and certification requirements outlined in the job posting.
Provide a wage range for entry level positions.
Our wages are competitive within the youth employment sector and increase with experience and responsibility: Camp Leader / Float Leader / Substitute Leader: $17.00 per hour Camp Instructor: $18.00 per hour Supplies and Inventory Assistant: $20.00 per hour Supervisor roles: $22.00 per hour.
What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules?
Camps operate Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. through July and August. Most positions are full time during the summer season; however, the Substitute Camp Leader role offers flexibility and part time hours, providing coverage and support across multiple programs as needed. Supervisor and Assistant roles are casual positions working the equivalent of full-time hours from May 1 to August 28, 2026.
Scheduled shift times are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in May and June, and anytime between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in July and August, Monday through Friday. Program Supervisors must have flexible hours throughout July and August to accommodate camp operations. We recognize that many of our employees are students and offer flexible scheduling during training and non-summer months to support school commitments and availability.
Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it?
Yes! All MRU Camps staff receive complimentary staff t-shirts and a lanyard as part of their uniform.
