How long have you been in business?
For nearly 100 years, The City of Calgary and citizens of Calgary have recognized the importance of having a range of publicly accessible recreation opportunities available, so all Calgarians and their communities can enjoy the benefits recreation produces.
Calgary Recreation and Calgary Neighbourhoods offer a diverse number of activities including free and affordable services for Calgarians including such as;: sports, swimming, art, fitness, golf, skating, day camps, free drop-in programs, Calgary AfterSchool programs and much more!
How many locations do you have in Calgary and nationally/internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area?
The City of Calgary offer programs at a variety of sites throughout the four quadrants of the city. Specific sites include: Pools, Leisure Centres, various community associations and schools across the city.
How many people does your organization employ? How many locally?
The City of Calgary employees over 13,000 employees, of those 13,000 employees 940 are employed throughout Calgary Recreation and Calgary Neighbourhoods as part-time on call employees.
What type of positions do you offer? (ex. Full time, part time, seasonal, contract etc.)
Currently, we are hiring for the Recreation Leader and Recreation Programmer positions for our summer programs. These positions are responsible for program leadership and supervision of participants in general recreation and specialized programs, special events, youth programs and day camps.
We offer a variety of part time on-call positions that range in hours, typically 20 hours or less a week. Throughout the summer, the Recreation Leader and Recreation Programmer do work increased hours, including full time hours.

Trainings in the areas of healthy childhood development, Social Emotional Learning, Physical Literacy, Trauma Informed Practice and Truth and Reconciliation, High Five (Principles of Healthy Childhood Development) and Supporting Children at Risk are available.

In October 2020, an Anti-Racism Action Committee, was formed to oversee the development of a community-based anti-racism strategy.
In our programs, we continue to dedicate resources to anti-racism, equity, diversity and inclusion work. We are also continuing reconciliation work with the Indigenous Peoples of southern Alberta

What do you look for in an employee?
Calgary Recreation and Calgary Neighbourhoods are looking for enthusiastic Recreation Leaders and Recreation Programmers who are interested in delivering exciting programs for both children and youth. Employees will gain essential skills for working in the Human Services, Child and Youth Care, Recreation, Education and Social Work sectors through Programming experts. Employees will have opportunity to create meaningful relationships and have a lasting impact on children and youth across Calgary
What type of education/training/equipment do you require?
A current Standard First Aid and CPR level C certification, from a recognized organization, is necessary on or before the first day of work.
What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions?
Most Recreation positions require applicants to be at least 16 years of age or older, however there are some positions that require applicants to be at least 18 years of age or older at the date of hire.
Provide a wage range for entry level positions.
Recreation Leaders rate of pay ranges from $15.00-$17.00/hour
Recreation Programmers rate of pay ranges from $16.00-$19.00/hour
What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules?
We offer a variety of part time on-call positions that range in hours, typically 20 hours or less a week. Throughout the summer, the Recreation Leader and Recreation Programmer do work increased hours. Hours vary depending on programming needs.
Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it?
A uniform is provided to new employees before their first shift with participants.
