Scaffolding is a temporary structure used to support workers on construction sites. Scaffolding is vital to the safety on a worksite and plays an important role on industrial, commercial and even residential work sites. Scaffolder is part of the Construction Craft Worker trade in Alberta. 

How long have you been in business?

Unique Scaffold was established in 1997 

How many locations do you have in Calgary and nationally/internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area?

We have one central office in Calgary and another office in Edmonton. We are hiring for both Calgary and Edmonton 

How many people does your organization employ? How many locally?

In Calgary we currently employ approximately 50 total employees, management included. In Edmonton we currently employ approximately 40 employees. 

What type of positions do you offer?  (ex. Full time, part time, seasonal, contract etc.)

We offer full time and seasonal work. Currently we are looking for entry-level to ticketed journeyman scaffolders.

Aside from working outside in the summer, getting in shape from the physical labour, and competitive wages, we have in house training for all aspects of the job.

Starting as a labourer, if a person shows interest and hard work they can move up as a scaffolder throughout the company.

There are a couple of entry level roles labourer and yard labourer. Once a candidate has worked as a labourer for a bit they can advance in their career by becoming an apprentice scaffolder.

Describe your hiring and interview process?

The person comes to the office, has a conversation with the hiring management where the tasks of the job are talked about. The person gives their experience and whether they are able to do the tasks physically. Afterward the hiring manager will speak to the field supervisor as to if they will be a good fit for the team. 

What do you look for in an employee?

Someone who will have success with Unique Scaffold is someone who shows initiative, is reliable to be at work on time, physically active, and a team player. Being strong is not necessarily the first thing we look for in an employee, the willingness to learn and grow with us will help shape the perfect employee. 



What type of education/training/equipment do you require?

We provide all training in house, CSTS, WHMIS, Fall protection etc. is provided. 

What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions?

We do allow 16 year olds, provided they can get to work on time each day. 

Provide a wage range for entry level positions.

$20-24 an hour 32-40 hours per week with the opportunity of overtime. 

What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules?

We can start as early as 5am depending on the project. For the most part start time is 7am and work usually for 8 hours, or until the project is complete. 

Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it?

We provide gloves, safety glasses, hard hats, and specialty items. Hi-vis vests and steel toed boots are needed.
