The Youth Employment Centre asked PeopleReady to answer a few questions about their company. 


How long have you been in business? 

We have been in business since 1986.

How many locations do you have in Calgary and nationally/internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area? 

We have two location here in Calgary: 150/152 -58th Avenue SW, Calgary, AB & 10-3745 Memorial Drive SE, Calgary, AB. We have 34 locations across Canada and approx. 400 locations across the USA and Puerto Rico. We fall under Trueblue Inc. group of companies. Our head office is located in Tacoma Washington.

How many people does your organization employ? How many locally? 

We have over 1000 people with the organization however here in Calgary we have 7 staff members which consists of Staffing Specialists and Management.

What type of positions do you offer?  (ex. Full time, part time, seasonal, contract etc.) 

We offer a wide variety of positions from full-time, temporary, part time, seasonal and contract work. Shifts typically are during the day, early mornings, afternoon shifts, over night shifts/evening and weekend work.


What are the benefits of working for your company? 

Staff discounts, incentive programs, scholarships etc. The benefits for working with us is you can work a wide variety of shifts that fit the associates schedule. We also pay daily and or weekly. Basically the associate has the option of working when they are available.

Describe opportunities for advancement. 

Depending on the associates performance they have the opportunity to get hired on full time if that is what they are looking for. It is a great stepping stone in trying out variety of positions to determine what they like to do in the future or even a career. It is also great for new workers coming into the work force to get basic job experience in different fields. 

List any corporate responsibility initiatives that your organization is currently involved in. 

We are in consistent communication with all our Community partners such as SAIT, Bow Valley, Mt. Royal, Newcomers etc… where we connect with people who are looking for work. Our corporate head office is involved with many charities and local organizations. Our current motto is being “A Force for Good”.

How would someone find out about opportunities at your company? How can a candidate apply?

Candidates can apply on line at www.peopleready.com where they can locate a job position that they are interested in and complete all on line paperwork. 

They can also call our office locally where we can walk them through this process. Once they complete the paperwork, they would come into our local office to complete our Health and Safety portion and are then ready to be offered job positions. 

We walk them through our process, expectations and staying in communication to be offered current job placements. We leave it up to the associate to let our staff know when they are available for work? We also have a texting app which makes it easy to communicate by text, phone or email.

Describe your hiring and interview process? 

Once they complete the paperwork online we then ask the employee to come into our local office to go through Health and Safety/WHMIS. We will ask them questions on there availability, our they driving or taking transit, assuring they are 18 yrs or older to be able to work with us and walk them through the work ticket, job location, what PPE they will need, job description, time date, etc…

What do you look for in an employee? 

We are always recruiting for new people. We are looking for associates that are reliable, punctual, physically fit as a lot of our work positions requires physical work. Willingness to try, dependable, able to stand for periods of time, can work outdoors/indoors, can lift 25 lbs. Or more

What type of education/training/equipment do you require? 

Most positions do not have an educational requirement however able to read, speak and understand English is preferred. We require at least a level 6. If for example the wish to drive a vehicle/forklift they are required or certified to have that type of training. 

Trades tickets are certainly welcomed. We just need to assure they have experience and/or a certification if required and so we can assure they can perform the job for our clients and of course for there safety.

What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions? 

The minimum wage is 18 years or older. No age requirements for different positions except for driving positions which requires the associate to be 25 years of age.


Provide a wage range for entry level positions. 

Depending on the job placement and what the job description is wage range could be from $15.00 minimum wage and up. We do however let all our associates know what they are getting paid per hour prior to being dispatched to a job placement.

What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules? 

Our offices open from 5:30am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday. Our south location located 150/152-58th Avenue SW is closed on the weekend. Our north office located at 10-3745 Memorial Drive SE is open from 8:00am to 10am Saturdays. 

The minimum hours someone needs to work is 4 hours/day or per week. There is plenty of room for flexibility in our work schedules. We try to accommodate and work around our associate’s schedules if possible. Basically associates work when they are available. We often get different times and schedules from our clients on what they are needing.

Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it? 

No need for a uniform unless required by the customer. Typical street wear, such as jeans, long sleeved shirt. We also offer all PPE needed for the job positions for free. Including, work boots, hard hat, vest, gloves, eye glasses etc. 

Basic PPE is offered.
