The City of Calgary Youth Employment Centre asked Foremost to answer a few questions about working at their company.

a)    How long have you been in business?

Foremost is a large and diverse industrial manufacturer. We specialize in equipment for oil & gas, mining, construction and water well markets and have grown to be one of the largest vacuum truck manufacturers in Canada. In early 2019, Foremost acquired the operating assets of Steel Craft Inc. and JTL Industries, leading to the addition of ULC Fuel Tanks and Agriculture Grain Bins to Foremost’s product line. 

With multiple locations in Alberta, a solid reputation dating back to 1940, over 400 employees and a unique depth of expertise Foremost is a company with great people, great products and a great future.  b)    How many locations do you have in Calgary and nationally/internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area?

We operate in Alberta only. We have 4 sites across the province: Calgary, Stettler, Lloydminster and Hythe (just outside of Grande Prairie). We sell internationally but we operate ‘locally’.

We are always looking for people in all of our sites!

 c)    How many people does your organization employ? How many locally?

 In Alberta, we have just over 500 employees. In Calgary we have just under 170 employees

 d)    What type of positions do you offer?  (ex. Full time, part time, seasonal, contract etc.)

 We only offer full-time opportunities

  e)   What are the benefits of working for your company? Staff discounts, incentive programs, scholarships etc.

 Most of the roles we look for are within skilled trades (welders, assemblers, warehouse, paint, etc). Our shop teams receive a yearly bonus for new work boots.

We also offer discounts to Marks Work Wearhouse.

We offer tuition reimbursement for employees who go to school and work with us in between their semesters. Additionally, we have multiple training courses that shop crews must undertake for certain roles, which the company provides.

We work hard to promote within. We also have a loyal workforce, with some employees having been with us over 30 years. Our leadership recognizes talent and works to help talent grow and evolve into tomorrows leaders.

 None at this time. 

What are some entry level career opportunities that your organization offers?  

a)   a)   How would someone find out about opportunities at your company? How can a candidate apply?

 We are currently advertising on indeed, as well as our own website: www.foremost.ca/careers.

b)    b) Describe your hiring and interview process?

For our shop roles, the resumes are forwarded to our foremen, who review them. They will contact the candidate and bring them in for an interview. The interview is usually 30-45 minutes.

c)    What do you look for in an employee? 

We look for candidates that align with our 6 core values: Customer Focus, People Matter, Stability, Accountability, Innovation, and Fun.

We look for people who have a desire to learn and grow with the company.

d)    What type of education/training/equipment do you require?

 PPE is paramount for us. For any shop roles, they require steel-toed boots, protective glasses, etc.

Many of our shop roles are specific, such as welding, and require either an apprentice trade ticket or journeyman trade ticket. For some of our other roles, such as labourer, we require candidates to be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs, and be on their feet for long periods.

e)    What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions?

 No age requirements at this time.

 f)     Provide a wage range for entry level positions.

 $16.71 - $24.77 per hour

g)    What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules?

We are open 7:00am-5:00pm Monday through Thursday, and 7:00am-11:00am on Fridays. 

Our shop hours differ based on roles, however most of our employees work 6:00am-4:30pm Monday through Thursday, and Fridays off.

h)    Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it? 

For entry level roles we do not have a uniform.
