Canadian Navy Reserves


The Navy Reserves in Calgary, HMCS Tecumseh, is part of the Royal Canadian Navy. The Naval Reserve provides the majority of the crews for Canada's 12 Kingston Class Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels. It acts as a domestic defense force and reserve asset for Canada's "Total Force Plan"

Naval Reservists are individuals engaged in their civilian lives while pursuing a military career. They work for the Navy in the evenings, on weekends and during the summer period, in an occupation of their choice. They can be students, teachers, lawyers, delivery persons, secretaries, or other members of society. Most serve on a part time basis, with no obligation to participate in any mission overseas. However, many full-time employment opportunities and deployments are available to those Reservists who volunteer for them.

What type of positions do you offer?

The Navy Reserves in Calgary offers part-time employment with the possibility of full time (14 consecutive days or more) after completing trades training which typically takes 3-4 years to complete.

What is your hiring process / How can one apply?

  2. Unit will contact applicant for further document completion.
  3. Applicant will undergoe a FORCE physical test, aptitude test, medical review and interview.
  4. Name, credit, and background checks are conducted.
  5. Application process can take from 4-18 months before employment is offered.
What do you look for in employees?

We look for individuals who are self-disciplined, physically and medically fit, can adapt and be flexible to work in a fast, sometimes dangerous and stressful environment. We look for individuals who can work as part of a team, respect the dignity of others, who are diligent and dedicated, who have courage and character fortitude.

What type of education/training/equipment do you require?

The various trades we offer require minimum grade 10 education completed. Other trades such as the officer positions require university degree or acceptance into a university program.

How old does someone have to be to work for your company?

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, and a full time student, with parental consent. They must also be a Canadian citizen; and have completed grade 10 education or equivalent.

How much will employees get paid?

Non commissioned members (NCMs) earn $90.30 per day. Officers earn $99.12 per day
