Since 1991, Canadian Utility Construction has continuously provided a complete range of underground construction services, specializing in construction and maintenance services for utility companies throughout Western Canada; including natural gas, electricity, and communications.

Yes. We have operations in Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Northern BC, Calgary, Regina, and Winnipeg.
How many employees does your organization employ?
We currently employ 400 operations and support staff throughout Western Canada.
What type of positions do you offer?
We primarily offer full time employment. However, depending on our operational needs, we hire summer and/or seasonal staff and co-op students in the field and our head office in BC.
What are some entry level career opportunities that your organization offers?
Over 95% of our managers started as Labourers in our company, including our VP of Operations. We are proud of promoting from within and strive to identify top employees in order to move them through the ranks. With that said, the most common entry level positions in our company include Labourer and Field Clerk.

What type of education/training/equipment do you require?
For our Labourer positions, we require a valid class 5 license with good driving record, a grade 12 diploma, and some familiarity with the construction industry or a desire to learn about our industry. For Field Clerk roles, we ideally are looking for candidates who have a diploma in construction management or technologist program completion. For our more advanced roles, we require specialized industry experience.
How old does someone have to be to work for your company?
Ideally, someone who has graduated from high school or is about to graduate can apply.
How much will employees get paid?
All of our operating areas are subject to a collective agreement with our union. Each region has specific hourly rates that apply. Our rates are competitive and the opportunity to grow with the company and earn significant compensation is outstanding.

We have developed a program called C2C or Courage to Care, which is a company initiative that aims to assist employees who may have substance abuse issues. It is a program that includes a committee made up of employees, union representatives, and management.
