C.S.S. Office Furniture Systems Service Inc.

a) How long have you been in business?
Our doors have been open since 1984.  On September 1st, 2018 we’ll be entering our 35th year of servicing the Calgary area, which is a major milestone!

b) How many locations do you have in Calgary and nationally/internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area?
As it stands right now, we have one main office/warehouse which is located in Calgary, AB in the Foothills Industrial area.  This location is where all of our potential candidates are interviewed; however, if you are offered employment, you could be stationed on a permanent site in the downtown core or visit multiple clients each day.

c) How many people does your organization employ? How many locally?
Currently we’re sitting at just under 20 employees.  Of that number only a couple individuals are part-time and the rest are full-time members of our work family.  53 percent of our full time staff have been employed for over 10 years.  Five of those employees have been here for 19+ years.

d) What type of positions do you offer?  (ex. Full time, part time, seasonal, contract etc.)
We offer full time, part time, and summer work.  This is a great place to work for individuals that need flexibility in a work schedule.

e) What are the benefits of working for your company? Staff discounts, incentive programs, scholarships etc.
  •  CSS offers a flexible schedule;
  •  We start paying overtime after 8 hours a day based upon a 40 hour week rather than standard 44 hour week;
  •  We work with your existing schedule and commitments;
  •  An amazing group benefits program and CSS splits the premium cost with you.  After 10 years of continuous employment, CSS will pay your premium in full;
  •  Year round employee and family events, including a camping trip in the summer; and
  •  A great environment and culture where everyone gets along.
f) Describe opportunities for advancement.
As there are many different facets to CSS, there is a lot to learn.  There are numerous internal training courses that will help you grow, both personally and professionally.  If you want to advance, take an interest in the different aspects of the Company, ask questions, and you can advance quickly.
We also like hiring people that don’t want to get stuck in the routine of doing the same day-to-day tasks and who like wearing many different hats.

g) List any corporate responsibility initiatives that your organization is currently involved in.
CSS is very conscientious of our environmental foot print and impact.  We do our part in every possible way to ensure we’re properly recycling our waste, wood products, and metals, etc.  We’ve also begun looking into partnering with a tree planting organization to give back even more to our planet!
We are very involved with our community and try to volunteer and sponsor events through local charities and our clients’ fundraising initiatives too!  We are big supporters of the Ronald McDonald House, and are always looking into other charities to lend a hand that are important to our work family.
What are some entry level career opportunities that your organization offers? Please attach job descriptions. Youth want to know as much detail as possible before deciding to apply.

h) How would someone find out about opportunities at your company? How can a candidate apply?
Interested candidates are encouraged to visit our website at www.cssoffice.com to gain an understanding of what we do.  Should you then wish to apply, send your resume to jobs@cssoffice.com and someone will reach out to you for a phone interview.

i) Describe your hiring and interview process?
Once a resume is received, it is reviewed by our HR & Safety Manager to ensure there are relevant skills and experience.  Should a candidate have previous experience, HR will contact them for a phone interview.  The candidate will be asked whether they are looking for full time or part time; what are their hourly wage expectations; etc.  Should all of their answers be in line with what CSS is looking for, a face-to-face interview will be scheduled.  This is where we go a bit deeper and see if the candidate is a fit for the Company.  Should they be the successful candidate, their references will be checked and an employment agreement and offer letter will be sent for acceptance.  Once accepted, a sign up and orientation will be scheduled at the main office where all the paperwork and manuals will be reviewed and a tour of the facility will be given.  They will be scheduled for their first shift shortly after that.

j) What do you look for in an employee?
We look for candidates with enthusiasm and a great attitude.  They want to learn, aren’t afraid to ask questions or get their hands dirty.  They enjoy being taught something new, and enjoy being part of a team.  They must be honest and reliable.

k) What type of education/training/equipment do you require?
Candidates don’t necessarily need any post-secondary education for this job; however, previous experience in the office furniture and/or moving industry is an asset.

l) What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions?
Candidates can be 15 years old; however, they may be restricted to what locations and projects they are permitted to work on.

m) Provide a wage range for entry level positions.
All new hires would start at minimum wage.

n) What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules?
Typically the shifts are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with evenings and weekend work as required.  There are days where the workday lasts up to 10-12 hours.  However, if the candidate is a minor, they are only permitted to work up to 8 hours in a day.

o) Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it?
CSS will provide our signature green shirt with company embroidered logo; however, the candidate is responsible for providing their own steel toed shoes and black pants.
