For 70 years, Easter Seals Alberta has supported individuals with disabilities and medical conditions. We strive to ensure that the resources they need for an independent and full life are available.

b)    How many locations do you have in Calgary and nationally/internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area?


We are an Alberta-based organization with one office in Calgary, another at Easter Seals Camp Horizon in Bragg Creek/Kananaskis area, and a group home in Edmonton. We are part of a National non-profit organization, Easter Seals Canada, in addition to representing the international Easter Seals brand.

 

c)    How many people does your organization employ? How many locally?

 Approximately 30 year round and an additional 50 seasonal positions 

 

d)    What type of positions do you offer?  (ex. Full time, part time, seasonal, contract etc.) 

     We are currently recruiting for our seasonal, summer positions, but we do offer full-time and part-time positions that open up throughout the year.

We offer programing and services that support individuals with disabilities and medical conditions. At Camp Horizon, we offer an incredible and fulfilling experience working AND living in the beautiful Kananaskis area, supporting people who could not enjoy these experiences otherwise. Not only will you will gain great valuable experience, but we also provide lodging and meals. At camp, you will receive 2 weeks of on the job training to help prepare you for your position. Some of our summer positions offer an opportunity for students to gain valuable experience in business, accounting, marketing and community development. 

Overall, this experience will set you apart to become an inclusive ally and leader in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). All seasonal staff will be offered mentorship, support with resume development and hands on work experience.

 

f)     Describe opportunities for advancement.

For Camp Horizon: Staff who work at one position one summer have the opportunity to work at a higher level position the next summer. For example, a counsellor could become a Jr Outdoor Educator or Outdoor Educator Programmer the next summer, if they have the right skills. Some nursing students start as a counsellor and as they get into higher levels in their nursing program, could be a Jr Nurse or a Nurse (once graduated). A student cook could have a higher level cook position the next summer.


For other summer students: These individuals could possibly get a permanent position with us once they have graduated if an applicable position came open.

Since we are a non-profit organization, our mission is to provide supports for people with disabilities and medical conditions

Describe your hiring and interview process?

a.    Once we have had an opportunity to review the application, we will send an email to the candidate inviting them for an interview, if we feel the candidate meets the qualifications for the position.

b.     We will hold one or two interviews depending on the position.

c.     If we feel the candidate would be good for the position, we would ask for 3 references that we would contact.

d.    If those are favourable, we would then send an offer letter.

e.    For a Camp position, the offer would be conditional upon receiving a clear Police and vulnerable sector check and current First Aid and CPR certificate.

 What type of education/training/equipment do you require?

a.    For Camp positions:

                                          i.    Enrolled in are graduated from Disability studies, outdoor education, nursing, education, Cooking/Culinary studies and other related programs

                                        ii.    First Aid & CPR certification

                                       iii.    For Outdoor Educator Programmer positions: related certifications (see job description)

b.    For Office positions:

                                          i.    Enrolled in or graduated from Business, Social Services, Accounting depending on position

 What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions?

Must be 18 years of age and older.

Provide a wage range for entry-level positions.

a.    Camp counsellors/ Outdoor Educators $375 - $500/week plus room and board

b.    Cooks - $17/ hour

c.    Office positions : $15 / hour


What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules?


Most of our positions are spring / summer positions and are full time generally Monday        to Friday

   Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it?

For Camp staff, there are t-shirts provided
