MacCon is a full service security, medical and logistics company that offers a range of professional security services.

a) How long have you been in business?
Since 1995 (23yrs).

b) How many locations do you have in Calgary and nationally/internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area?
Calgary. 

c) How many people does your organization employ? How many locally?
We currently have 105 staff members.

d) What type of positions do you offer?  (ex. Full time, part time, seasonal, contract etc.) 
We offer full time, part time and casual work.

e) What are the benefits of working for your company? 
Staff discounts, incentive programs, scholarships etc. Staff are provided up to 120hrs of free Law Enforcement level training within their first year of being employed, and up to 170hrs of extra training thereafter. This is unheard of in the private sector for security. 

f) Describe opportunities for advancement.
Staff have the opportunity to move up via our training tier system. Our “tier” system is comprised of 5 levels. Each “tier” comprises of more advanced training, while still maintaining recerts from the previous “tier” level.

h) How would someone find out about opportunities at your company? How can a candidate apply? 
New applicants can apply via our website, or keep an eye out on Indeed for new hiring sessions. We also advertise on our Facebook Page for any upcoming hiring sessions.

i) Describe your hiring and interview process? 
Those who apply are contacted via email and will be invited to come to our office for a 40min Orientation. The orientation answers many questions that are usually asked by a new applicant. After the orientation, applicants have the option to sign up for an in-person interview the same evening. Applicants who’re successful from the interview process are then contacted for conditional employment.

j) What do you look for in an employee?
Someone who has a good head on their shoulders, who can interact with the general public, work in a team environment, learn new skill sets in a short amount of time, can follow direction and can make decisions on their own.

k) What type of education/training/equipment do you require? 
Education in Criminal Justice is always an asset but not required. New applicants don’t require any training upfront as we’ll put all staff through the necessary training to be a successful guard. To get ahead of the curve, applicants may start the ABST (Alberta Basic Security Training) prior to employment.

l) What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions? 
18yrs of age or older. There are no age restrictions for any position within the company.

m) Provide a wage range for entry level positions.
To be industry competitive, all staff start out at $15/hr. Wage increases pending on “tier” level completion.

n) What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules? 
Our business hours are typically 10am to 5pm but fluctuate depending on the season. We have various shift times due to client requests. Staff are expected to work a certain number of shifts per month. We are very flexible with scheduling because we know staff have other commitments like school, another job and extracurricular activities etc. Our flexibility with scheduling is one of the things that attracts many students to us.

o) Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it?
All staff are required to put down a deposit on the company uniform.
