The Youth Employment Centre (YEC) asked Randstad to answer a few questions about their company: 


How long have you been in business? 

Randstad has been in business for over 60 years

How many locations do you have in Calgary and nationally/internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area? 

We operate in 39 countries, in Canada from coast to coast, in Calgary we have 7 branches (Engineering, Technologies, Light Industrial, Business Services, Finance & Accounting, Field Services, Skilled Trades and Industrial Management)

How many people does your organization employ? How many locally? 

1000 across the country at a given time

What type of positions do you offer?  (ex. Full time, part time, seasonal, contract etc.) 

Contract, permanent and remote since the pandemic

What are the benefits of working for your company? Staff discounts, incentive programs, scholarships etc. 

If the employee starts a full time permanent position, then they will receive the employer’s benefits, if they are on a contract can be eligible to Sun Life benefits with a minimum charge/contribution 

Describe opportunities for advancement. 

Depending on the job opportunity and the employer it is with but there is always a chance for advancement, even with learning new skills from different contracts, meeting new people, different exposures, etc.

Describe your hiring and interview process? 

  • Apply to the relevant job
  • When you resume is shortlisted
  • Applicant will be put through a phone screening
  • A virtual interview
  • Reference checks
  • Health & Safety training
  • MS Office testing
  • Lastly, candidate will be presented to the relevant employer

What do you look for in an employee? 

I managed the business services function and the main traits I look for an employee is commitment, reliability, necessary technical skills based on the job, excellent communication skills (verbal, written), strong work ethics and proficient MS Office

What type of education/training/equipment do you require? 

Depends on the job, could be high school could be a bachelors degree.

What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions? 

Minimum is 18+

Provide a wage range for entry level positions. 

$17+

What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules? 

Most employers offer full time hours even if the assignment is a contract, usually 8am – 4:30pm

Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it? 

No uniform is required for admin jobs, some light industrial or technical jobs might require a specific PPE, the employee might require a steel toe shoe and an employee would pay for it or contribute toward it.
