How long have you been in business?  

Our hotel opened in 1983 and has since undergone various renovations and updates.  The hotel holds 305 guest rooms, a Club Lounge with beautiful panoramic views of the city and mountains, extensive meeting and event space, as well as Henry’s Pub, Carver’s Steakhouse, Colors Bistro, our coffee shop, and our fabulous Oasis River Country Waterpark – the first with indoor waterslides in North America!

How many locations do you have in Calgary and nationally/internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area? 

We hire exclusively for our Calgary hotel – the Sheraton Cavalier Calgary.

How many people does your organization employ? How many locally? 

Our organization proudly employs around 250 associates here in Calgary.

We offer full time, part time, seasonal, and casual positions.

Being a valued and contributing member of the community is important to us.  We achieve this by supporting various programs with the Mustard Seed and Women’s Shelter including providing amenities and food items, as well as our wonderful staff volunteering their time to help out where it is needed.  

What are some entry level career opportunities that your organization offers? 

We have a wide array of entry level positions including serving positions in one of our five outlets, banquet server positions in our catering department, and guest services agents, to name a few.  Our positions range from part time/casual to full time hours, and offer flexible shifts including days, evenings, and night shifts.

Describe your hiring and interview process.

Candidates may apply and then resumes and applications are screened for qualifications if there are any prerequisites for the position.  After that, a number of candidates will be selected for interviews where they will meet their Department Head and a Human Resources representative.  If they are selected and accept the position, we proceed with onboarding and training.

What do you look for in an employee?

A friendly demeanor, positive outlook, empathy, great communication, and a desire to go the extra mile go a long way in hospitality and are qualities that we look for in potential employees. 

What type of education/training/equipment do you require? 

We have a wide range of positions so the training and education varies from role to role.  For example, our serving positions require ProServe certification, and our Front Desk positions usually require some formal education in hospitality or travel & tourism. 

What is the minimum age required to work for your company? 

This depends on the position - for example, serving positions require a candidate to be at least 18 years of age for the purposes of serving alcohol. 

Provide a wage range for entry level positions. 

Entry level positions generally start at $13.60. 

What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules? 

Being a hotel means that it is a 24 hour business. We have a lot of flexibility in shift times and lengths, and have no minimum requirement of hours per week.  

Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it? 

Uniforms are provided by the company.
