The Youth Employment Centre (YEC) asked Vector Marketing Canada to answer a few questions about their company:
How long have you been in business?
We have been in business since 1981
How many locations do you have in Calgary and nationally/internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area?
We have over 500 locations across North America. Locally, we are currently accepting applications for our Calgary, Okotoks and Airdrie Teams!
How many people does your organization employ? How many locally?
We work with over a thousand students annually across Canada, and we have many openings here locally. We’re looking to build a championship team, so we’re looking to add individuals who have a positive attitude, are willing to try something new, and committed to learning.
What type of positions do you offer? (ex. Full time, part time, seasonal, contract etc.)
We have flexible work schedules available for both permanent year-round positions, as well as summer work opportunities. They can either be either full-time or part-time, and they are super flexible. We offer fully remote/virtual entry level sales and customer service positions.
What are the benefits of working for your company? Staff discounts, incentive programs, scholarships etc.
We believe that work should be fun, seriously. We run energetic, personal and professional growth conferences, we have tons of contests to win trips and technology and we also offer over $23,000 in scholarships to our top performers.
Describe opportunities for advancement.
We are expanding across the country, and almost exclusively promote from within, so we have opportunities for those looking for advancement, to move into our Branch Management training program.
List any corporate responsibility initiatives that your organization is currently involved in.
Giving back to the community is something we truly value. Over the last few months our team has donated to the Girls and Boys Club, Ronald Mc Donald House, Veteran’s Food Bank, Doorstep Love Project, Frontline Workers at South Campus Hospital, Parachutes for Pets, YYC Youth Helping Youth, Big Brother Big Sister, Northern Star Mother’s Milk Bank, Community Kitchen Calgary, and Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids. Also as a company, we nationally support the Front Row Foundation.
What are some entry level career opportunities that your organization offers? How would someone find out about opportunities at your company? How can a candidate apply?
You can learn more about us and apply at www.work4students.ca/ye
Describe your hiring and interview process?
We work with many students who have little or no prior experience. Interested applicants can apply directly through our site and set up a remote interview time. During that interview we’ll cover all details of the position and be able to give them a decision either way by the end.
Successful applicants will then participate in 3 days of our comprehensive training, done over Zoom. We take pride in also providing a lot of on-going training.
What do you look for in an employee?
A successful candidate has a positive attitude, enjoys interacting with other people, and is able to handle himself or herself in a professional manner.
What type of education/training/equipment do you require?
We take great pride in our training, so prior experience is not necessary, however we look for those who are open to trying something new.
What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions?
The minimum age requirement for the Sales Representative position is at least 17 years old.
Provide a wage range for entry level positions.
Our starting pay is $20.25 base per qualified appointment, and representatives also have the opportunity to earn more from commissions. They earn the base pay or commissions, whichever is higher, so it’s a very relaxed environment.
What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules?
There is no minimum required/week. The hours are flexible as we work with a primarily students who work around school and extracurricular activities. Our representatives can work as little or as much as they’d like.
Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it?
No, there are no uniforms needed
